Newspaper In Education Week is celebrated annually during the first full school week of March, specifically March 5-9, 2012.

Marking the event this year, the NAA Foundation re-releases the teacher’s guide Give Them the Keys. The curriculum, first introduced in 2002, has been updated to include standardized lesson plans which include common core standards, technology standards, leveled activities and assessments.

NIE and the Common Core State Standards

The National Governors Association Center for Best Practices (NGA Center) and the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) released a set of state-led education standards, the Common Core State Standards, in June, to be adopted state-by-state. Georgia adopted the standards in July. The standards establish clear and consistent goals for learning that will prepare America's children for success in college and work.
